Ever wanted a massage but weren’t sure what was what? Or you couldn’t decide whether you needed a remedial massage, a deep tissue or simply a refreshing and stress reducing relaxation session? Well here’s a basic explanation to help you decide exactly what you need.
What is a Relaxation Massage?
A relaxation massage (also known as Swedish) helps de-stress and loosen up your body and is great for those who have had a hard working week
or feel like treating themselves to some TLC! The treatment consists of flowing strokes, kneading and gentle manipulations of the muscles performed at your chosen pressure. It is a pain-free way to relax both your muscles and your mind.
What is a Deep Tissue Massage?
Deep Tissue Massage is also known as Therapeutic Massage. This type of massage uses special techniques that are not used in a Relaxation Massage session. In order to release the tightness in the soft tissue, the massage therapist needs to work deeper into the tissue and will use whichever therapeutic technique is most effective for the condition. In working deeper into the tissues, it may require firmer pressure and sometimes a certain level of discomfort.
What is a Remedial Massage?
If you have particular muscle issue, injury or chronic pain a remedial massage may be for you. Your remedial massage therapist will assess where you need treatment and what may be causing your pain. Your treatment will require active participation from you, and may include a combination of deep tissue, stretching, trigger point and take home exercises. Conditions such as sciatica, carpal tunnel, stiff necks, headaches, injuries and many more complaints can be eased with a remedial treatment plan.
